How to Root HTC Desire 816 and Install CWM Recovery

After being popular in high-end Android smartphones, the Taiwanese manufacturer HTC has lined-up a new mid-range device named HTC Desire 816 to capture normal user’s attention. Similar to other mid-range Smartphones present in the market, the new HTC Desire 816 is packed with features such as 5.5 inch HD display, Quad-core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A7 processor, 1.5 GB RAM and much more. In order to stay one step ahead of other manufacturers, HTC has installed the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat with it’s HTC Sense 6 OS on the device.

Rooting Prerequisites

  • The whole rooting process depends on the device’s battery. So, you must charge your device battery sufficiently up to 70% or more.
  • Make sure USB Debugging option is enabled on your device.
  • The device boot loader must be in an unlocked state.
  • Your system must possess appropriate USB drivers to detect your device.

Steps to Root HTC Desire 816 and Install CWM Recovery

Step 1: Download all the above specified files on your system.
Step 2: Connect your device to your System and copy the “SuperSu” file to your device memory.
Step 3: Disconnect and turn off your device.
Step 4: Now, boot your device in to “fastboot” mode by pressing and holding “Volume down key + Power button” together for a few seconds.
Step 5: Once again connect your device to your system.
Step 6: Run the downloaded “CWM_Recovery_en.exe”. The process will take a few seconds to install CWM Recovery on your device.
Step 7: Once the installing process is completes, boot your device into “Recovery mode” by selecting “Recovery” from the Hboot menu. Note that you don’t have to reboot the device.
Step 8: Now, inside the Recovery, you have to flash “SuperSu” file.
Step 9: Select “install zip from SD card” > “choose zip from SD card” > select “SuperSu” which you have copied earlier .
Step 10: Within a few seconds the flashing process will be completed.
Step 11: That’s it! Reboot your device by selecting “reboot now” option from the recovery menu.
